As we prepare to celebrate the National Doctors’ Day, the doctors from AGMC and GBP Hospital have brought exciting news to the entire medical fraternity and the common people.
The hospital successfully performed its third kidney transplant on Monday — a significant milestone that reflects the growing strength of Tripura’s public healthcare system.
The life-saving procedure was carried out through a coordinated effort between GBP Hospital’s Urology and Nephrology departments and a visiting team from Shija Hospital & Research Institute, Manipur.
Together, they brought hope to two families — both the donor and the recipient, residents of Radhanagar in Agartala, are currently in stable condition.
Dr. Kanak Chowdhury, Deputy Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital, shared that the previous two transplant cases, conducted in June and November last year, have also shown encouraging outcomes.
Meanwhile, all three procedures mark steady progress in offering complex care right here in Tripura. The success is not just medical — it’s deeply emotional. Each transplant is a story of courage, compassion, and second chances at life.
For a small state like Tripura, such achievements go far beyond operation theatres— they symbolize a growing confidence in local healthcare.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha took to social media to express his appreciation and congratulate the medical team.
“As we prepare to celebrate Doctors' Day tomorrow, I'm delighted to share that our doctors at AGMC & GBP Hospital, in collaboration with the medical team from Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Manipur, have successfully performed their third kidney transplant. Both the donor and recipient are now in stable condition. This achievement reflects our medical team's expertise and dedication,” he wrote on social media.
