Agartala, May 05: Thakchara Gram Panchayat in Tripura’s Amarpur sub-division is emerging as a symbol of grassroots innovation and leadership, thanks to its all-women representatives, who transformed local governance.
On Monday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised the panchayat’s achievements by sharing a short video clip highlighting its forward-thinking development work, just a day before his official visit to the area.
Led by Pradhan Lata Dey, the nine-member women’s team has used funds earned from a prestigious national award to introduce several new community amenities. These include the establishment of a baby feeding room, the installation of CCTV cameras to enhance security, sanitary pad vending machines to improve women’s health access, and solar panels installed across all village wards, pushing the panchayat toward sustainable energy use.
The Pradhan shared that future plans include converting the old panchayat office into an Anganwadi Centre to benefit local children and families, while upgrading the current office into a modern two-storied facility. She expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his continued support and encouragement.
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a series of development projects in Amarpur sub-division of Gomati district, with a combined investment of Rs. 188 crore.
According to officials, the Chief Minister will formally inaugurate 34 projects and lay the foundation for another 22 initiatives — together amounting to Rs. 120.96 crore — at a public event in Chandibari ground.
Adding to the district’s transformation, a Rs. 67 crore tourism infrastructure project will also be launched, covering key destinations such as Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar, aiming to boost tourism and generate employment opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Gomati district administration has finalized all preparations, including stringent security arrangements, ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit.
