Agartala, Mar 19: The Tripura government has placed a strong focus on expanding rural livelihoods and women-led economic growth, as a delegation presented its proposed budget for the 2026–27 Financial Year in New Delhi.
Led by Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, the team outlined a comprehensive strategy covering key schemes, with particular emphasis on strengthening the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
During the presentation, TRLM Chief Executive Officer Tarit Kanti Chakma highlighted the mission’s recent achievements and its forward-looking plans aimed at empowering Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the state.
One of the standout success stories was the “Samriddhi” initiative, which has significantly boosted grassroots entrepreneurship. The first phase of the programme garnered Rs. 198 crore, while its second phase surpassed expectations by reaching Rs. 248 crore, reflecting growing participation and market reach of SHG enterprises.
The state is also stepping up efforts to create high-value women entrepreneurs through a strategic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. The initiative aims to nurture “Millionaire Didis” and “Crorepati Didis” by offering structured training, mentorship, and enterprise development support.
In a major push towards financial inclusion, Rs. 100 crore has already been disbursed among one lakh women beneficiaries under the “Lakhpati Didi” initiative, launched by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. Encouraged by the response, the government has now raised its target to 1.35 lakh beneficiaries, up from the earlier 1.13 lakh.
To further support income-generating activities, 60 vehicles have been sanctioned for SHG members, enabling better mobility and market connectivity.
Additionally, Rs. 110 crore has been proposed for infrastructure development under TRLM in the upcoming financial year.
In a bid to improve market access for locally produced goods, the state plans to set up “SHE Marts” in all districts, providing dedicated retail platforms for SHG products.
The delegation also highlighted progress under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, with a proposed allocation of Rs. 49.92 crore for skill development and employment generation among rural youth in 2026–27.
Meanwhile, under the Vibrant Villages Programme, 87 villages across 23 blocks in border areas have been identified for focused development, with livelihood enhancement as a key priority.
As part of the visit, the Tripura delegation presented locally made SHG products to officials of the Ministry of Rural Development, showcasing the state’s growing rural enterprise ecosystem.
Overall, the presentation reflected Tripura’s commitment to inclusive development, with a clear roadmap centered on women empowerment, skill development, and sustainable rural transformation.
