TRLM-run SHGs transforming lives of rural women

Agartala, Aug 3: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) is steadily transforming rural women from job seekers into entrepreneurs by extending financial assistance, institutional guidance and easier access to bank credit, enabling them to establish successful businesses and generate employment within their communities.

The impact of the mission is evident in the journeys of two Self Help Group (SHG) members from North Tripura and Sepahijala districts, whose enterprises have grown into sustainable livelihood models with government support.

In North Tripura's Jubarajnagar block, Swarnali Paul of Perona SHG has successfully expanded her fabrication, interior printing and mattress manufacturing business after receiving financial assistance through TRLM. Backed by Rs. 9.95 lakh under Community-Based Organisation (CBO) funding and Rs. 15 lakh in institutional bank credit, she has strengthened her business operations and increased production capacity.

Her enterprise now provides regular employment to three women associated with SHGs while generating a monthly income of nearly Rs. 1 lakh, demonstrating how rural entrepreneurship can create both economic stability and local job opportunities.

A similar transformation has taken place in Sepahijala district, where Bina Rani Sarkar of Mangal Deep SHG under Mohanbhog Block has turned her bakery and confectionery venture into a flourishing business.

With financial support of Rs. 40,000 through CBO funding and Rs. 8.98 lakh in bank credit facilitated under TRLM, she expanded her enterprise and now earns between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh every month. Her bakery also provides employment to three fellow SHG members, helping strengthen livelihoods within the local community.

Officials said the two entrepreneurs reflect the broader objective of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission—to promote women-led enterprises through financial inclusion, skill development and institutional support. By helping SHG members access capital and scale up their businesses, the mission is contributing to higher household incomes, employment generation and greater economic self-reliance across rural Tripura.

With more women embracing entrepreneurship under the programme, TRLM is increasingly emerging as a key driver of inclusive rural development in the state.
