TRLM, Tata Trusts discuss Rs. 15-cr rural livelihood initiative for three Aspirational Blocks

Agartala, Oct 1: A proposed Rs. 15-crore partnership between the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tata Trusts is set to focus on strengthening rural livelihoods and improving support infrastructure across three Aspirational Blocks in Tripura.

The proposed initiative will cover Dasda and Damcherra in North Tripura and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, with TRLM and Tata Trusts currently holding discussions on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for implementing the programme.

A video conference was held on Thursday between TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and representatives of Tata Trusts, where the two sides discussed the proposed intervention, its implementation mechanism and areas where the organisations could collaborate.

The programme is proposed to be implemented over a five-year period from January 2027 to November 2031, with Tata Trusts expected to contribute around Rs. 15 crore towards the initiative.

The proposed intervention is expected to directly benefit nearly 3,500 rural households, while another 1,500 households are likely to be covered through convergence with existing TRLM programmes.

Livelihood promotion will remain at the centre of the initiative, with proposed activities including piggery, duckery and fishery. Alongside income-generating activities, the programme will also seek to develop essential infrastructure for beneficiaries to help them establish and sustain their livelihoods.

The collaboration is being planned with a focus on creating more sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural families in some of the state's Aspirational Blocks. Greater convergence between ongoing development programmes and the proposed Tata Trusts intervention is also expected to be a key component.

The two organisations are now expected to work on the finer details of the programme, including its implementation strategy, beneficiary coverage and operational modalities. The proposed MoU will be finalised after these aspects are worked out.
