Agartala, Mar 18: The polling date for the elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has been rescheduled to April 12, 2026, instead of the previously announced April 13.
The State Election Commissioner had earlier declared April 13 as the polling date during a press conference on March 17.
However, the date coincided with major tribal festivals such as Garia Puja, Biju, and Buisu, which are widely celebrated across the state.
The matter was subsequently raised during the budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, where a proposal was adopted urging the State Election Commission to reconsider the polling date.
Several political parties and non-governmental organizations also appealed to the Commission for a change in schedule.
Considering the significance of these festivals and aiming to ensure maximum participation from all communities, the Commission decided to advance the polling date by one day to April 12.
According to an official press note, all other aspects of the election schedule, as announced earlier on March 17, will remain unchanged.
