Two-day weekend introduced in Tripura govt offices, timing revised, 81 posts to be filled up

Agartala, May 25: The Tripura government on Monday announced two-day weekend for state employees, revising office timings. The state cabinet also approved recruitment for 81 posts across key departments.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Tourism Minister and government spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said all state government offices will now remain closed on both Saturdays and Sundays with immediate effect, marking a significant change in the state's office schedule.

Under the new arrangement, government offices will operate from 9:30 am to 6 pm on working days. The cabinet has also decided to discontinue the roster-based work-from-home system that had been in place for Group-C and Group-D employees.

The cabinet simultaneously approved a set of austerity and administrative efficiency measures. In view of the prevailing global circumstances and to curb expenditure, around 75 percent of official meetings will be held virtually. The government has also decided to encourage the procurement and outsourcing of electric vehicles as part of a broader push toward cost-effective and sustainable administration.

Alongside these policy decisions, the council of ministers gave the green signal for recruitment in 81 posts spread across the Public Works Department (PWD), Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department and Finance Department.

The PWD will see the creation and recruitment of 26 Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), with three positions reserved for ex-servicemen.

The Information and Cultural Affairs Department received approval to fill 50 vacancies through direct recruitment. The posts include one Translator, 13 Reporters, one Script Writer, seven Cultural Assistants, one Assistant Photographer, two Folk Artists, one Assistant Librarian and 24 Lower Division Clerks.

Additionally, the cabinet cleared recruitment for five Inspectors of Small Savings under the Finance Department.

Addressing concerns over availability of essentials, Chowdhury, who also oversees the Food Department, said the state currently has sufficient stock of fuel and other essential commodities, assuring that there is no immediate cause for concern regarding supply.
