Agartala, Sept 12: Two newly-elected BJP MLAs of Tripura- Tafajjal Hossain from Boxanagar and Bindu Debnath from Dhanpur took oath as the member of Tripura Legislative Assembly on September 12.
Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly BIswabandhu Sen administered the oath of office to the new MLAs in presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other dignitaries.
They won the bye-polls with record margins. Tafajjal Hossain received 33,849 votes in the minority dominated Boxanagar seat while CPM's Mizan Hussain got only 3,884 votes.
Almost similar was the result in Dhanpur constituency-- BJP’s Bindu Debnath defeated his nearest CPM rival Kaushik Chanda by a margin of 18,625 votes.
Bharatiya Janata Party secured a spectacular victory in the bye-elections to Boxanagar and Dhanpur assembly constituencies, according to the results announced by Election Commission of India on September 8 last.
The bye-polls were held on September 5 last with over 89 percent voting in Boxanagar and around 84 percent turnout in Dhanpur.
Hossain secured a historic win with the margin of 30,237 votes in muslim- dominated Boxanagar seat, earlier known as a stronghold of Communists.
With the swearing in of both the MLAs, the number of MLAs of BJP and IPFT alliance increased to 34.
Meanwhile, the CPM boycotted the counting with allegations of vote rigging and inactive role of Election Commission. The Congress-Communist understanding, however, faced a huge defeat as people rejected them in both the constituencies.
