Agartala, Sept 07: Two youths from Bihar were arrested along with two pistols from Shalbagan area in the outskirt of Tripura capital on Sunday night.

They were arrested in a joint operation carried out by Tripura Police and Assam Rifles. The operation was aimed at strengthening security and curbing trafficking of illegal arms.

Sub-Divisional Police officer (SDPO), New Capital Complex- Subrata Barman said, two 9mm pistols, three magazines and eight rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in the possession of the two youths near the BSF camp in Shalbagan.

He said, police are thoroughly interrogating the arrested persons.

Assam Rifles in a press release said, the successful operation underscores the continued commitment of the force towards maintaining peace and security in Tripura and preventing trafficking of illegal arms in the region.

The force, the press release said, remains steadfast in its endeavour to work closely with sister agencies and strengthen the security environment through coordinated intelligence-based operations.
