University to come up at Tripura's Gomati district, foundation stone laid

Agartala, Mar 02: Tripura's Gomati district is set to get 'Mata Tripura Sundari University', for which the foundation stone was laid on Sunday.

Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who attended the Bhumi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony, said the university would function as a regular university, although initially it was planned as an open (distance learning) university.

He said, as per the discussions with the university officials, the structure would be made ready in one year, with an investment of around Rs. 50 crore.

The minister expressed hope that the University would not only benefit the students but also generate employment scopes to local people.

He also said, a plan is in the pipeline to introduce another college in the district to reduce the load on the existing one.

He said, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the present Tripura government led by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is also implementing various plans to strengthen the education sector. He also thanked the Chief Minister for approving the University at Matabari assembly constituency.

Minister for Cooperation Shukla Charan Noatia, MLA Abhishek Debroy and other representatives and officials including the University's sponsoring body chairman Hemant Goyal were present.
