Agartala, Mar 29: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on the Congress-led UPA government, alleging that the country had witnessed widespread corruption during its tenure, while asserting that India is now progressing on the path of development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing an election rally in Silchar, Assam, Dr. Saha expressed confidence that voters’ trust in BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would translate into a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the upcoming polls.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a, election campaign held at Kirtania Ground on Satsang Ashram Road in support of BJP nominee Dr. Rajdeep Roy. He said the party is optimistic about securing a comfortable win, citing public support and organisational strength.
“We fought against the long 35-year rule of the communists. For a long time, they carried out misrule in Tripura. And the bell to get rid of it rang when Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister of the country in 2014,” Dr. Saha noted.
Highlighting changes in the Northeast, Saha said the region, once neglected, is now receiving focused attention. He referred to PM Modi’s vision of ‘Ashtalakshmi’ for the Northeast and the implementation of the Act East Policy aimed at accelerating growth and connectivity.
Despite his busy schedule in Tripura, including the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections and the Dharmanagar by-poll, Saha said he prioritised campaigning in Silchar due to the people's connection with Tripura.
He also informed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to join the campaign trail in the constituency.
Among others present at the rally were MP Parimal Shukla Baidya, MLAs Dipayan Chakraborty and Nihar Kanti Das, and senior BJP leader Bimalendu Roy.
