A sudden outburst of violence at Bishramganj Motor Stand in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Tuesday evening left several injured and raised serious concerns about attempts to disrupt peace in the region.
According to sources, a passenger bus en route from Agartala to Sonamura was attacked upon arrival at Bishramganj. A group of miscreants, allegedly affiliated with a regional political group, reportedly vandalized the vehicle and assaulted several passengers. The victims, many of whom suffered injuries, were later shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
Preceding the incident, a female passenger had reportedly accused a fellow traveller of inappropriate behavior but was unable to clearly identify the individual. The incident appeared to have been communicated ahead of time, as the attackers were seemingly already present at the location and acted swiftly upon the bus’s arrival.
Witnesses at the scene expressed suspicion over the nature and timing of the attack, suggesting that it may have been orchestrated to incite tension. Many described the act as calculated, aimed at disturbing communal harmony under the guise of seeking justice.
Law enforcement officials, including Sepahijala Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma, reached the spot promptly. Additional security personnel were deployed to prevent further escalation.
Police have taken custody of the damaged bus and launched an investigation into the incident.
