Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality training modules for advanced knowledge of railway staffs on safe train operations

Maligaon, Sept 02: In order to improve the knowledge of railway staffs on safety related aspects, Northeast Frontier Railway has introduced an innovative Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality (VR & MR) training module at its Multi-Disciplinary Zonal Training Institute (MDZTI), Alipurduar.

This Digital Hub for Soft Skill Training of Indian Railways module has been prepared for all the running and safety staffs who are engaged in train operations. Trainees can have access to a comprehensive tutorial guidance on respective working nature with the uses of headset and joystick.

Earlier, trainings were inducted in two phases i.e. theoretical & practical where classroom instruction and practical sessions were conducted. However, with the technological advancements and introduction of VR & MR training module, real time experience can be gained.

This advanced module also helped to improve access to standard parameters in real time situation. As of now a total of 2020 numbers of trainees i.e. 516 Station Managers, 372 Train Managers, 555 Loco Pilots, 550 Assistant Loco Pilots and 27 Junior Engineers/Senior Section Engineers of P. Way have been imparted training successfully in this VR & MR module. 

The utilization of Virtual Reality & Mixed Reality for advanced training practices will change the overall perspective of trainees in gaining knowledge about the particular schedule.

Introduction of this innovative training approach will not only enhance the effectiveness of frontline staffs but will also emphasizes safety and operational excellence within the railway network. CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma informed this in a press note.
