Agartala, Oct 14: Durga Puja was celebrated across Tripura including Agartala in a vibrant atmosphere, lifting spirits despite the challenges posed by recent floods. With favourable weather during festival days, people across the state came together to participate in the festivities, marking a joyful resurgence after a period of uncertainty.
The celebration saw a steady rise in participation, with massive crowds filling the streets from Chaturthi evening. Major pandals in the city witnessed thousands of devotees and revellers, who thronged to offer prayers and join in the celebration. The festive atmosphere was marked by the rhythmic beats of traditional dhak, devotional chants, and songs, creating a cultural spectacle that engulfed the city.
The local administration took extensive measures to ensure the safety of the people. With heightened security and efficient crowd management strategies in place, the festival went off smoothly, with no significant disturbances reported. A few minor road accidents occurred, but overall, the event was celebrated peacefully across the state.
The highlight of the festivities was the Maha Ashtami celebration, which brought an extra dose of energy and joy to Agartala. As devotees gathered to offer Anjali to Goddess Durga, the city buzzed with a renewed sense of unity and devotion. The immersion of idols began shortly after the completion of the Dashami Puja on Saturday, signifying the conclusion of the Sharadiya festival.
This year’s Durga Puja was slightly unconventional, with Nabami and Dashami Pujas taking place over two consecutive days, adding a unique touch to the traditional schedule. The customary Sindoor Khela, a joyous ritual where women apply vermillion on each other, took place at Durga Bari in Agartala on the occasion of Dashami, bringing the festivities to a colourful close.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation played a key role in facilitating the immersion process, making thorough arrangements at Dashami Ghat to ensure a safe and seamless event. From adequate lighting to sufficient deployment of personnel, every detail was meticulously planned, allowing the community to bid farewell to Maa Durga with grace and reverence.
Despite some scaled-back celebrations in certain areas due to the lingering effects of the recent floods, the essence of Durga Puja remained unshaken. The festival once again demonstrated its power to unite people and bring joy, as Agartala embraced the tradition with open arms, sending a message of resilience and hope.
