Workshop on 'Revamping Skill Development and Employability Ecosystem' held in Tripura

A one-day high-level stake holder consultation on “Revamping the Skill Development and
Employability Ecosystem in Tripura” was successfully held today in Agartala, jointly organized by the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC).

This was part of an ongoing collaborative study aimed at strengthening the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) landscape in Tripura.

This is perhaps for the first time that such a multi-agency consultative approach has been attempted for formulating an important policy intervention.

The event was graced by the presence of Paramananda Sarkar Bannerjee, officer on
Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Tripura, who delivered the keynote address and
emphasized the importance of aligning the state’s skilling initiatives with emerging economic opportunities and demographic realities.

The workshop was also attended by senior
government officials including the Director, Skill Development, Government of Tripura,
along with representatives from academia, industry, civil society, and training institutions.

The IIM Calcutta team was led by Prof. Saikat Maitra and Prof. Rajeshbabu R, who facilitated sector-focused discussions. The study identifies logistics, IT/ITES, eco-tourism, agro-processing, pharma and crafts as high-potential sectors for targeted skilling and employment interventions in the state.

Key sessions included stakeholder panels on industry alignment in hospitality, healthcare,
bamboo, and rubber-wood sectors; breakout discussions on gender-inclusive and tribal
youth skilling; and deliberations on integrating green jobs, entrepreneurship, and digital
skilling into Tripura’s future skilling strategy.

It is believed that the deliberations from the workshop will help formulate the final policy
report and operational toolkit being developed by IIM Calcutta and TIFT, with actionable
recommendations for policy alignment, stakeholder coordination, and implementation reform.

The proceedings and outcomes of the workshop will be documented and disseminated widely to support evidence-based decision-making.

This initiative reflects the Government of Tripura’s commitment to building a dynamic,
inclusive, and future-ready skilling ecosystem that empowers its youth, drives economic
development, and fosters social equity.
