
In a significant step towards establishing a world-class skill development ecosystem in Tripura, a high-level delegation led by Santana Chakma, Minister, Industries & Commerce Department, visited the World Skill Centre (WSC), Odisha, Bhubaneswar on Saturday to study its successful model and explore avenues for collaboration in the establishment of the proposed World Skills Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania, Agartala.
The proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania is envisioned as a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence that will provide advanced skill training, industry-oriented education, employability enhancement programmes, career counselling, placement facilitation, and entrepreneurship support to the youth of Tripura.
The Centre aims to bridge the gap between industry requirements and workforce capabilities by offering training in emerging technologies and high-growth sectors aligned with national and global employment trends.
Recognizing the exemplary work carried out by the World Skill Centre, Odisha, the Government of Tripura has engaged WSC Odisha as a Knowledge Partner for the proposed initiative.
WSC Odisha will provide technical support and guidance in areas such as infrastructure planning, laboratory design, equipment specifications, curriculum development, assessment and certification frameworks, faculty development, industry linkage mechanisms, and operational strategies.
During the visit, the Tripura delegation closely observed the advanced training laboratories, smart classrooms, simulation facilities, assessment systems, industry collaboration models, international partnerships, placement mechanisms, and student support services being implemented at WSC Odisha.
The delegation also interacted with faculty members, technical experts, trainees, and industry representatives to gain first-hand knowledge of best practices in skill development and workforce preparation.
The learnings and experiences gained during the exposure visit will significantly contribute to the establishment of the proposed World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania on similar lines, adapted to the socio-economic and industrial requirements of Tripura.
Industries Minister emphasized the importance of creating a future-ready workforce and highlighted the Government's commitment to providing quality skill training and employment opportunities to the youth of the State.
The visit reaffirmed the Government of Tripura's vision of developing a robust skill development ecosystem capable of meeting the aspirations of young people while supporting industrial growth and economic development, according to a government press release.
The delegation comprised the Director and Deputy Director of Skill Development, and other senior officials from the Government of Tripura.
During the visit, the team held extensive discussions and interactions with officials of the Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha, and the management of the World Skill Centre.
The establishment of the World Skill Centre and Employability Hub at Hapania is expected to emerge as a landmark initiative for Tripura and the North Eastern Region, fostering innovation, enhancing employability, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods.
