Agartala, May 10: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Police in North Tripura district recovered a massive cache of yaba tablets estimated to be worth nearly Rs. 1 crore in the illegal market.
Two alleged drug traffickers were taken into custody during the operation carried out by Panisagar police on Sunday.
According to police sources, the action was initiated following confidential intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspected smugglers travelling on a motorcycle from Uttar Padmabill towards Dharmanagar.
Acting swiftly, a special police team established a checkpoint near Rakhtacherra Bridge to monitor the route.
During the interception, officers stopped the motorcycle and conducted a detailed search of the suspects and their belongings.
The search led to the recovery of 10 packets containing yaba tablets, which had reportedly been hidden inside two larger packets in a carry bag.
Police also confiscated two mobile handsets along with the motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Suhel Alam, a resident of Fulbari, and Usabul Uddin from Khadim Para. Investigators suspect the duo may be linked to a wider interstate narcotics network operating in the region.
Officials stated that both accused are currently being questioned, and further revelations related to the supply chain and trafficking routes are expected during the ongoing investigation.
The two men are scheduled to be produced before the court on Monday, police added.
