Youth arrested in Tripura for attempting to kill ex-girlfriend’s brother

Agartala, Jan 15: Tripura Police’s prompt action could avert a murder and save a precious life on Sunday.

A youth- Raju Chowdhury of Salema in Dhalai district has been arrested after he attempted to kill brother of his ex-girlfriend, who got married to another person one year ago. The incident triggered huge sensation at Bankumari area under College Tilla outpost in Agartala on Sunday.

One Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) staff received bleeding injuries while saving the youth who was attacked with sharp cutting weapon.

According to police sources, the police staff on duty near College Tilla outpost and the ERSS staff at newly placed Naka point at Bankumari noticed suspicious movement of the youth- Raju Chowdhury and saw him overpowering another youth- Sanu Banik (24), resident of Salema in Dhalai district. 

Raju reportedly attacked Sanu with a Dao. The police rushed there and took control of the situation and saved a precious life.

Due to swift action of policemen and ERSS staff at the Naka point, the accused person could not kill the youth. The policemen immediately seized the Dao and arrested the accused. 

While saving the youth, the ERSS staff received bleeding injuries on his person. The injured ERSS staff and the injured youth were shifted to IGM hospital where the attending medical officer referred them to GBP hospital.

Police said, during preliminary interrogation, it has been found that the injured person- Sanu Banik is the brother of a girl with whom the accused had an affair for many years. She had already married to another person about one year ago. As he failed to marry his love, the accused held Sanu responsible for everything happed to his relation.

A police officer said, the accused also admitted that he had intention and preparation to kill both Sanu and his sister.

During search, another sharp knife was recovered from the possession of the accused person. The accused has been camping in Agartala for the last one year and stalking the girl and her family.

The prompt action of Sub-Inspector of Narayan Deb of College Tilla Outpost and ERSS staff Sandeep Debnath (constable) could avert the murder.
